Thienhaus takes over as president of University Health System board of directors and dean of School of Medicine

RENO/LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Ole Thienhaus, M.D., MBA, began his two-year appointment as dean of the University of Nevada School of Medicine and president of the board of directors at University Health System on July 1. University Health System is the clinical practice for the School of Medicine.
Thienhaus replaces John A. McDonald, M.D., Ph.D., who moves to head up the University of Nevada, Reno's new Division of Health Sciences.
Until his appointment as dean, Thienhaus served as chair of the School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, its only statewide clinical department.
Prior to joining the School of Medicine in 1995, Thienhaus was a faculty member and vice chair of psychiatry at the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati where he also received his residency training in psychiatry and completed his fellowship in geriatric psychiatry in 1984. Additionally, he received his MBA from the University of Cincinnati College of Business in 1985. Thienhaus was born in Northern Germany and attended universities in Germany and Ireland, graduating in 1978 with a medical degree from the Free University of Berlin.
He has published nearly 100 articles and book chapters, as well as three books. He is a fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists and serves on the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Thienhaus, who see patients in rural communities throughout the state, will continue to do so while serving as dean and president. In some cases, he is the only psychiatrist these patients have access to due to their relatively remote locations.
